Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification FAQs

Find answers to common questions about CPR training and certification to ensure you're prepared.

What is included in BLS?

BLS training includes Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and relief from choking. The chest compressions in CPR help maintain blood flow to the heart and brain when someone's heart has stopped beating. This action, along with giving breaths and following the AED prompts, greatly increases the odds of survival until advanced medical support arrives and can take over.

What is the AED?

The AED is the Automated External Defibrillator which analyzes the heart's rhythm to determine if a shock is needed to return the heart to a normal rhythm.

Do I have to be a healthcare professional or work in a healthcare setting to be certified?

No. You can work in any field and be trained in Basic Life Support.

After training, what certification will I receive?

After you have successfully completed the course, you will receive a BLS Provider Card via email the same day or shortly after.

How long does certification last?

AHA BLS Cards are valid for 2 years.

What is the difference between the Traditional and Blended course?

With the Traditional Course, learning, skills and testing are all done in person. With the Blended course, learning and testing are done online and skills are done in person.
